An Interview With JelenaAdd to favorites674

June 27, 2013

We were lucky enough to catch up with the gorgeous Jelena to get to know her better and talk all things sun, summer and style…

1. What is your favourite piece from the figleaves collection?

My favourite piece is the Icon Spot Mesh Shaping Swimsuit with the Icon Spot Mesh Maxi Skirt. It made me feel very sophisticated and elegant which is something I don’t usually feel in a swimsuit. It was a nice feeling!

2. figleaves.com is passionate about making women feel beautiful and confident. How did the clothes make you feel?

I felt very comfortable and the clothes fit me perfectly, so I definitely felt confident and beautiful. Well done for figleaves! They achieved exactly all the things they are passionate about with me.

3. How would you describe the collection in three words?

Fun, glamorous and exotic.

4. What is your favourite holiday destination?

The Maldives. It is so beautiful and peaceful. I love the warm sea, lots of sun and good food.

5. How would you describe your summer style?

I like kaftans and wear them a lot in the summer. The Riveria Rib Bikini with Congo Kimono Kaftan that I wore at the photo shoot would always be my choice.

6. What would we find in your beach bag?

I always take my Kindle, sunglasses, 50+ sun cream and a hat.

7. Glamorous poolside goddess or boho beach chic?

Boho beach chic.

8. What is your ultimate summer song?

Oh, I’m not sure! The one I liked during the photo shoot is Get lucky by Daft Punk. I heard it will be a big hit this summer!

9. What did you enjoy most about the photo shoot?

The people who were part of it and the atmosphere. It was like a little pool party with a beautiful view and a lot of beautiful clothes.

10. The pictures look gorgeous! Is modelling something you’d like to pursue?

Thank you! I really had a lot of fun, but I think it’s too early to speak about a modelling career. I really enjoy my work and it doesn’t leave me that much free time.

11. The Novak Djokovic Foundation is an integral part of your life. Can you tell us a bit more about that?

It is really as you said – an integral part of my life – and I am so blessed to have such a rewarding job. We work hard every day, year round to bring education to underprivileged children in Serbia, because at the end of the day that is one thing that nobody can take away from them. We are especially focused on pre-school education, and we are planning to make it available to all the children because now that is not the case.

More than 51% of children are not enrolled in pre-school programs either because of poverty, lack of space in kindergartens, because they live too far or because their parents don’t understand the importance of it. Imagine, more than 51% of the children participate in organised activities and play with other kids for the first time when they turn 6 and education becomes obligatory. Some of them never held a book before that. That’s really sad.

12. What are your plans for the charity over the next few years? And how can we get involved?

First of all, I have to say that figleaves is already very much involved. With their generous donation we can support many projects and help many kids. Our plans for the future are really big. We are in the process of opening 4 pre-school centres in Serbia where more than 100 children will get a chance to go through high quality programs and develop their skills before enrolling in mandatory school.

The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, who is the Global Ambassador of the Novak Djokovic Foundation, is planning to come to Serbia and donate her books. Also, we are financing one very big 3 year program by UNICEF with the aim to prevent the institutionalisation of children under 3 by giving support to the families at risk of separation.

Apart from that, we support organisations that work with children and finance their programs and projects. Just recently we donated books and toys and rewarded children with good grades in schools with new bikes. We are organising two fundraising events this year. One will be in London on the 8th of July in Roundhouse and the other one will be on the 10th September in New York in Capitale. Whoever would be interested to come and support our events can do so by purchasing a ticket or table can contact our US office on the following email address: mrobertson@aabproductions.com
