In the office we’re always talking about the latest fitness craze…what can we try that isn’t too tedious? Well if like us you struggle to find the activity that suits you then keep reading. We’ve asked a few people around the office what they love to do to keep fit, so for the next few weeks, we’ll be telling you what we think of the latest sports crazes.
The first is from Lucy, our Marketing Executive who has found a new love for Pilates.
“If there is one month that I get a surge of motivation and a desire to shed the pounds gained over Christmas once and for all, January is that month. This year I vowed to take a more realistic approach to the whole fitness and health kick malarkey and find a sport that fits into my lifestyle and does my mind some good as well as my waistline.
The fast paced nature of my job combined with my tendency to be a little stressed at times means I find it hard to switch off. My sister introduced me to Pilates a few months back and knowing that Elle ‘the body’ Macpherson swears by it (I’m also known for celeb stalking), I thought I would give it a go.
Thankfully Pilates isn’t a sport where you need to be kitted out in the latest sports gear (except I do love the figleaves active Yoga Legging), you don’t even need trainers, just a mat and an open mind. The lights are dimmed and the music is low and relaxing…but not enough to send you off to sleep. You do a variety of positions which gradually get easier and you can feel your muscles lengthening and strengthening with every move. It is a cliché but Pilates does make you aware of muscles you never thought you had, it tightens up your core and focuses on your breathing.
With classes at 8.30pm, it really is the best wind down before bed and leaves me with the satisfaction that I have worked my entire body yet not even broken a sweat.
Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t been mistaken for Elle yet but I have finally found something that suits my lifestyle and helps stimulate my mind, walk taller, and generally de-stress.”
