We all know the importance of maintaining health and fitness, but with busy lives and so many distractions it can be difficult to fit in regular exercise. However, when we heard about the fitness success of actress and mum, Tamzin Outhwaite, we had to take note.
After having her second baby, Tamzin, 42, was left feeling unfit, untoned and bored to death of the gym. So, Tamzin decided to take action and undergo the Speedo swimming challenge. The six-week training programme involved a bespoke fitness plan to get fit fast and shed her post-baby weight. Tamzin commented: “I’ve always been quite active, but after my second child, I didn’t feel comfortable sweating it out in the gym. I love swimming on holiday but never saw it as a way of keeping fit so was keen to find out about swimming for fitness.’
Under the guidance of former Olympic swimmer and Speedo Ambassador, Karen Pickering, Tamzin swam twice a week for 45 minutes each time. The programme also included aerobic fitness drills and techniques using Speedo Power Paddles and Hydro Discs to help improve stamina and fitness. In order to build strength and create definition, Tamzin worked her legs with Speedo Kick Boards and Pullbuoys.
Karen said: “When done properly, swimming can be one of the best sports for burning calories, building strength and muscle tone. It doesn’t have to be about monotonous lengths up and down the pool; you can mix it up with different techniques and equipment to keep things varied and target problem areas.”
Tamzin’s motivational story proves that the misconception of swimming as ‘boring’ couldn’t be further from the truth. Tamzin shows that swimming can work wonders on your body and make you look forward to working out.
