Here at figleaves.com we're passionate about providing the perfect fit. Getting the right fitting bra improves your posture and figure in an instant, it will also give you everyday comfort.

With over 10 years of experience in lingerie fitting, we feel the most accurate way of working out your bra size is to try on a range of different sizes and bra shapes to determine what feels right and what gives you the correct fit. Every style and brand of lingerie fits slightly differently, so pay attention to the fit and appearance of every bra you try. Here are some tips:

  • The underband of the bra should be firm enough around your body to grip to your rib cage and not slip or move when you are active.
  • The front and back of the bra should sit at the same level around your body, and the back should not be pulled up higher by shortening the straps.
  • The wires should be touching the rib cage at the centre front around the bust and at the underarm, the wire should not lean onto breast tissue. A firm enough under band should hold this in place on the ribs.
  • Your breasts should not be bulging over the cups and the cups should not have any loose fabric either.

Points to remember

  • Use these table guides as a starting point only and use it in conjunction with the fit guides
  • The same cup sizes will not be the same on different band sizes eg The cup size of a 32D will not be the same as a 36D.It depends on the bra band size as shown in the chart above
  • The new size may not feel right for you especially if you have been wearing a bra that fitted incorrectly - the most common fault is wearing a bra that has been too loose in the underband, therefore your new band size will feel tighter. If your new band size is more than two sizes different you may feel it more comfortable to change one size at a time
  • The tape measure can only provide a rough guide and you will only know by trying on different styles and following the guides
  • Remember the most important thing is to have the bra fitting correctly. Try on different shapes to see what suits you and what make you feel comfortable
  • Bra sizing may appear complicated - in fact it is very simple if you follow the steps above

Euro and US size comparisons

The charts below show there is quite a difference in sizing between different countries. There is quite a difference, especially in the larger cup sizes so use this for guidance only in conjunction with the fit guides.
