Senior designer, Komal Jassal

What is a senior designer?
I manage and create designs for online and offline marketing and content. Each day varies – from UX design, printed look books and packaging, to creating fun animated banners.

How did you get here?
I’ve always been interested in creative projects. As a nine-year-old I made my own ‘fashion magazine’ called ‘Lamok’ – my name spelt backwards. I did an Art Foundation course at the prestigious Central Saint Martins. I became hugely interested in the psychology of creative communication, which led me to graphic design.

Best thing about the job?
Everyone has a voice here and you don’t feel like a small fish in a big pool. And now that I’m a mother I appreciate the support I have had transitioning back to work and the recognition of the importance of a work life balance.

Figleaves learning?
Digital design across all the channels has progressed so much in the past few years so there’s been a constant learning.

Favourite bra style?
T-shirt bra.

Fun fact
I am always singing.

Software test manager, Claire Lamb

What is a software test manager?
I’m responsible for the overall quality of the Figleaves website. We’re constantly making changes to the site to improve it and I make sure that they will work before going live.

How did you get here?
I have a degree in Information Systems with Management from DeMontfort University and have worked in software testing at companies like Tesco, ASOS and M&S before joining Figleaves two and a half years ago.

Best thing about the job?
I love the variety in the projects I work on and that I get to do so many more things than if I were at a big multiple retailer. And I learnt to run thanks to the company run club.

Figleaves learning?
There are more women in tech these days but we’re still a minority. Being a woman hasn’t held me back at all so I would encourage girls to pursue a tech career if it’s their passion.

Favourite bra style?
The Wonderbra Ultimate Strapless bra – it really does stay put.

Fun fact
I moved to LA with my (now) husband after three months of dating.

Garment technologist, Tori Shelton

What is a garment technologist?
I work with our designers and buyers. They ask me ‘how can this design be made to work’. So, for example, I will look at fabric suitability and fit samples.

How did you get here?
I’ve always been interested in the technical side of making clothes – I even made my prom dress. I did a degree in Contour Fashion at DeMontfort University then went into pattern cutting and grading. I’ve been at Figleaves for over four years.

Best thing about the job?
The opportunity to visit our factories – I’m currently working on a sustainability project with them. I also love that we are encouraged to take ownership – if we want to do or improve something we can.

Figleaves learning?
That while women can share a bra size the shape of their breasts can be very different and suit different bra styles.

Favourite bra style?
T-shirt bra.

Fun fact
I have done over 5,000 fittings.
