Trousseau treasure trove

Some modern brides may not be familiar with this age-old tradition, but if you would like luxurious new lingerie and nightwear, then it’s a good time to join the revived pre-wedding pastime…

Think decadent lingerie, silk nightwear, designer swimwear and a host of new perfume and make up. Well, that’s a trousseau today.

Years ago, it was trunks of lace, silk, luxurious bed linen, china, key fashion ensembles, stockings, gloves, hats and jewellery. This is what a bride-to-be collected in her trousseau (usually a high quality piece of large luggage), which she then took to her new home once married. Many of the items were handmade by female relatives, and the purpose was to give the bride everything she needed to set up her new life with her new husband.

Having seen a resurgence in the trend of trousseaux, they are once again popular, but of course have been adapted to suit modern day women. Some of the traditional trousseau inventory, such as bed linen and sleepwear, remain, while seductive lingerie and indulgent pamper goodies and make up are now also included with an eye firmly on the honeymoon wardrobe.

As a bride-to-be, trousseau are a chance for you to restock on your firm favourites, while also splashing out on designer brands you’ve only dreamt of treating yourself to, until now.

Follow in the footsteps of Eva Longoria, who shopped for her trousseau lingerie at Figleaves. She splashed out on our host of Elle MacPherson lingerie sets and various designer swimwear and nightwear.

Here’s your essential trousseau treasure troves…

For the ultimate chemise, we love the Figleaves Lana pure silk and lace chemise. With its feminine low cut back, 100 per cent silk and lace trim, it is everything a blushing bride dreams of. Or why not channel influencer Lydia Millen who chose the Julianne Coco silk robe for her trousseau.

If there’s one thing you want in your trousseau, it’s beautiful, luxurious lingerie aplenty.

Invest in some beautiful Elle MacPherson Body lingerie, such as the exquisite and delicate Zest balconette underwired bra and briefs. In a bridal-esque cream shell colour with soft grey straps and a divine grey tassel mid bust, it carries you from wedding day to new future.

Or the slightly bolder mandarin red Strip t-shirt bra, with extra strapping and intricate lace, has a slightly flirty feel.

If you want big names in your trousseau, opt for the Heidi Klum Intimates Zoe contour balconette bra in rhododendron. With woven satin and floral lace, pretty bows and keyhole features, it’s classy but sexy.

For a truly piece of seductive lingerie, look no further than the Pour Moi? Amour set, available in a host of opulent colours with contrasting lace overlay, along with coordinating suspenders.

When it comes to swimwear for your trousseau, we recommend classic, quality pieces.

We love the Figleaves Icon Spot mesh high neck swimsuit. The feminine sheer mesh panels on the sides and between the bust create a subtle alluring look.

The brand new Figleaves Icon Cruise off the shoulder shaping swimsuit has a classic nautical feel, while the zip keeps it on trend and the shape control enhances your silhouette.

If you’re more of a bikini bride, treat yourself to the Seafolly Wrap Front bralette. It retains your white bridal colour theme (as well as enhances your honeymoon tan), while the wrap tie keeps it on trend.

Alternatively, add some colour to your trousseau with the Stella McCartney Iconic Print plunge bikini. The gorgeous floral print and bold multi colours are beautiful, while the delicate cross way straps give a feminine touch.
