Comfort is calling you

The new season brings new trends to tempt you, and thoughts go to updating your lingerie drawer. And what better time to look to a movement that’s progressed beyond flash-in-the-pan trend status to a permanent place in the lingerie lexicon. We’re talking comfort.

Non-wired cups, padded hook and eyes, innovative super soft fabrics and seamless finishes – they are all fundamental features to the growth in comfort. It’s no longer about living for that relieving moment at the end of the day when you can take off your bra, but rather hardly knowing you’re wearing one.

Lingerie now focuses on what we want and need as the women wearing it; primarily all-day comfort, freedom of movement and that much sought-after ‘second skin’. And it seems women across the globe are embracing the change.

The move to comfort-led bras in relaxed shapes has reached an all-time high, with an astonishing 3,000 per cent growth of soft line (non-wired) bras in 2018 compared with 2015 according to fashion industry monitors Edited. And bralettes in particular are gaining popularity with sales up 180 per cent at Figleaves over the past three years.

Innovations in fabrics and designs have allowed bras to become their most comfortable yet, without sacrificing on style or support. They work with your body’s shape and embrace it, rather than trying to change it (as epitomised by the heavily padded push-up).

Here we put the spotlight on three styles that put a special emphasis on comfort; the choice is yours…

Spacer bras

Spacer bras are made from light-weight, breathable fabric, allowing the air to pass through the cup for freshness (say goodbye to boob sweat!). The cups are moulded for a smooth, seam-free finish.

Spacers bras are very akin to t-shirt bras, and offer all the comfort you’d hope for without sacrificing shape and support. The moulded cup provides the shape, but without the need for extra cup seams.

This is such a comfortable bra, I hardly notice it’s on. I can lean forward without my boobs falling out which happens with a lot of other brands. It’s the first time I’ve tried this brand. The cups are lightweight and fit perfectly. It looks really good too.

Wireless bras

As you’d expect, wireless bras are just that; they don’t have a wire under the cup. They might be called wireless, non-wired or soft cup.

However, this doesn’t mean that they don’t offer support, because the majority of support when wearing a bra should come from the underband. Supportive fabrics also ensure the cup and breast is fully held.

Watch out for the latest addition to our Smoothing plunge bra in a gorgeous brown hue. This bra is wireless with deep wings, seam-free moulded cups, padded hook and eye and comes in a soft brushed microfibre for the ultimate in comfort. Grab it in five other colour ways too!

One of the best fitting bras I have had in years. True to size. Not underwired but it doesn’t need to be as gives great support and cleavage. Very comfortable.

Bralettes

Bralettes are often full stretch garments, with no or very flexible wires. They mostly suit smaller cup sizes, however they can also give great comfort for larger cups.

Choose styles that have an underband that sits flush against your chest for maximum support, as well as wider straps. They won’t offer much support or boosting lift, but they should give coverage and be comfortable whatever your cup size.

The Figleaves Millie is a full-stretch lace bralette with wider straps on the shoulder to give support and comfort, and is available in XS to XL, which will cover up to an F cup. This lilac hue is arriving in April, and watch out for the lemon shade coming later this year to join the other five colour options!

I bought one of these about 6 months ago in black. I have worn it so much, because it is so comfortable, so I bought two more in the navy and cherry. I love them. As a big boobed girl it is tricky to find bralettes, but these fit really well. Definitely worth a buy!
